Poetry Day #8

Today our prompt was to check out  poetry Twitter accounts that Tweet out lines from various poets; Mary Ruefle @ruefle_exe, Anne Carson @carsonbot  - those were the two that really caught my eye and my imagination.
We were to peruse these accounts and grab onto a phrase, or even a word……..

From Mary Ruefle:
Sliding across our pond
The favored whore
First snow, then vodka

And then from Anne Carson
I was nervous all the rest of my life

Haiku
The Mallard ducks are
Sliding across our pond now
With nary a care

NERVOUS AS A WHORE IN CHURCH

Is this new normal
Now my cross to bear

Never having been the nervous sort
Nor suffering anxiety
They are both a constant

I do not want people near me
I do not want to go out
I do not want to order food
I am more nervous than a whore in church
Even a favored whore

I shall take the blame
All winter I wanted to be snowed in
Stuck at home to work and play
It would have been
First snow then vodka
And it would have been glorious
