Poetry Day #20
We are 2/3rds of the way through – and I’m honestly a little sad to know that this is winding down!
Our prompt today was to write a poem about a homemade or handmade gift that we have received at some point in our lifetime.
Haiku
Boogers, butts and poop
These things are hilarious
When you are a kid
Homemade Artwork
When I left for college
She had recently turned seven
She was funny and smart and
To be honest a little eccentric
At some point early on in my
College career an envelope arrived
Inside were two works of art
Meant to spruce up my dorm room
There was Booger Man
Spelled incorrectly
Accompanied by Booger Woman
Also spelled incorrectly
Drawn with perhaps too many details
Accompanied by descriptions to graphic
Of different things one finds
In their nose
Were these drawings the best of the
Homemade things I’ve ever received
I cannot say that,
I have many treasures
Things carefully filed in labeled boxes
In my basement
From a brother, niece, nephew
And countless cousins
But these gems were from my sister
Who was my hero then
And is my hero today
A critical care physician assistant
Perhaps we should have seen the writing on the wall
