Poetry Day #15
Today’s challenge was to write a poem inspired by our favorite kind of music. It was suggested that we try to recreate the sounds and timing of a pop ballad, a jazz improvisation, or a Bach fugue – I haven’t started writing yet – but it is in my head and unlikely to come out like that….but who knows. The said we could incorporate refrains (that may happen), neologisms(I had to look that up – it’s a newly coined word or phrase – not going to happen) or flights of whimsy(not looking good here either). I do know that the poem will give away the song, it is in fact a specific song. If you don’t know it, look it up and maybe even listen to it.
Haiku
Radio blaring
Tempting fate at every turn
Head strong and cocksure
The Driving Beat
Driving with the sunroof open
Windows down and Blaupunkt blaring
Going eighty on a residential road
Drunk and high
In a car too powerful
And too expensive for a teen
Who was pushing fate to the
Edge of the cliff day after day
Bought with someone else’s money
By a man in over his head
Living too large and too fast
I wasn’t the only one runnin’ with the devil
