A New Milestone

I have a couple of hours left in my forties ---- then at midnight I could join AARP. I will abstain from that.  I did get the flyer but I don’t feel like a senior – I don’t get Medicare, I will be well into my sixties before I qualify for social security at the full payment – I don’t need Depends, I don’t have trouble with energy, stamina or thinking clearly – well you know, as clearly as I ever think. I don’t feel 50 at all – I guess it is because I still think like a 14-year-old boy.

I confirmed the 14-year-old boy theory a couple of times lately – I went and saw The Interview – it was offensive. I laughed out loud. Not only did I laugh at the political humor, but I also laughed at the poop and butthole jokes. My second bit of proof came during my Rotary meeting this week – you sing at Rotary. It’s a silly thing in my opinion and 95% of my club can’t sing worth a damn – we can literally turn any song into a dirge – it’s frightening. Anyway, we sing a song called Alive, Alert, Awake, Enthusiastic.  At least that’s how it is supposed to go……….we have a member that replaces the word AWAKE – with the word ERECT – it’s a man.  And he’s even older than I am – so if he is still waking up with wood then I salute him. And apparently he still salutes himself. There is a whole table of us that finds this rendition amusing.

What does that say about us??We are immature? Maybe. We are Rotarians which also means we are out doing a lot of good things for people and organizations around the world. In my mind that gives us a pass on the boner humor. I might get thrown out now. I wonder how the Kiwanians feel about this?

I have decided that now that I am half way through life I am probably not going to change. I’m ok with that. I generally like who I am – and you don’t have to agree with me. I still want to learn new things, have lots of new experiences, travel to new places, listen to new music, watch more movies, read more – if I ever stop learning and growing mentally it might as well be over. I have surrounded myself with a most interesting group of friends. They span decades in ages. They have a huge variety of hobbies and interests. They have a great assortment of career paths. And I am drawn to each one for a totally different reason. I have the ones that are my rocks. I have some that constantly make me think. I have a couple that might actually be shallower than I am. They all inspire me in some way – that is what matters. I have rekindled old friendships, I have started new ones. It is quite exciting.

I am also about to embark on new career adventures – one path that I already have experience in, and one path that is totally new. I want to sign the actual documents that bind me into these businesses – then I will tell you more!

Go out there and be a little more exciting this year!

Love,
